Expanded metal is often referred to as diamond punched, stretched metal or security mesh. Due to its method of manufacture, expanded metal is one of the most economical steel mesh, or grating material, on the market.
Expanded Metal is produced from solid sheets or plates of carbon, galvanized and stainless steel, as well as aluminum and a variety of alloys of copper, nickel, silver, titanium and other metals. Because expanded metal is made from a solid sheet of metal, and it is not woven or welded - it can never unravel.
Flattened expanded metal is expanded metal that has been cold flattened, leaving a smooth, flat surface with diamond shaped openings. Flattened expanded metal from Direct Metals is durable, economical, versatile, and is available in many material options, such as carbon steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. During this process, the length of the sheet is elongated, usually by about five percent. After the expanded metal has been flattened, the expanded sheet is then sent through a leveler to maintain its flatness.
