Welded Wire Mesh: A Versatile and Essential Industrial Material

1. Wire Preparation:​ Low-carbon steel wire is the most common base material. Wires are drawn to precise diameters, which can range from fine 0.5 mm wires to heavy 6 mm or thicker rods. Stainless steel or wires with pre-applied coatings (like galvanizing) are also used.
2. Straightening & Alignment:​ Wires are fed through straightening machines and arranged into two perpendicular sets: the longitudinal wires (the "wrap") and the transverse wires (the "weft" or "fill").
3. Resistance Welding:​ The grid of wires passes under welding electrodes. A powerful electrical current is applied at each intersection, generating intense heat that fuses the wires together into a solid weld nugget. This is the core of the mesh's strength.
4. Post-Welding Treatment:​ The welded mesh panel is often treated for corrosion resistance. Common methods include:
   • Hot-Dip Galvanizing:​ Immersion in molten zinc for maximum durability.
   • Electro-Galvanizing:​ A thinner, smoother zinc coating via electroplating.
   • PVC or Polyester Coating:​ A layer of plastic fused to the wire, offering both protection and a range of colors.
5. Cutting and Coiling:​ Finally, the continuous mesh is cut into flat panels (sheets) or rolled into coils, depending on the wire gauge and application.

• Dimensional Accuracy:​ Mesh openings (apertures) and overall panel sizes are consistent and precise, facilitating easy installation and design.

• Durability and Longevity:​ With appropriate coatings, it offers excellent resistance to rust, corrosion, and weathering.

• Material:​ Mild Steel​ (economical, requires coating), Stainless Steel​ (corrosion-resistant for harsh/food-grade environments), Galvanized Steel​ (zinc-coated for outdoor use).
• Wire Diameter (Gauge):​ Thicker wires provide greater strength and rigidity. Common range: 16 gauge (~1.3mm) to 6 gauge (~4.9mm).
• Mesh Opening (Aperture):​ The clear distance between adjacent wires (e.g., 1" x 1", 2" x 4"). Smaller openings offer more containment or filtration; larger openings provide visibility and airflow.
• Surface Treatment:​ Hot-Dip Galvanized (HDG)​ is best for harsh, outdoor, or industrial use. PVC-Coated​ is ideal for aesthetic applications, marine environments, or where color is desired.
